Top newspaper report- PDP denies plot to impeach Amaechi

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Rivers State chapter, Felix Obuah, has denied involvement in the alleged impeachment move against Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
He also has absolved President Goodluck Jonathan of interference in the Abuja High Court judgement that sacked the executive of the Chief Godspower Ake-led executive.
Addressing the people of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government, who paid him a solidarity visit yesterday, Obuah said that he did not have any disagreement with the governor, noting that those hammering on disagreement between him and Amaechi in the media were doing so for their own interest.
The chairmanship of the party, he stressed, does not give him the power to impeach Amaechi, noting that he wants to work with the Governor.
“We will only
disagree with Amaechi if he falls short in delivering the dividends of democracy,” he said.
He pointed out that the party reigns supreme, and as such, it is bigger than any member, saying that those making allegations that he wants to impeach Governor Amaechi are only trying to maintain their positions, and not doing so in the interest of the state or the people.
He said that the comments credited to some government officials were “unguarded and sponsored” and dismissed the impeachment allegation.
Obuah said: “I want to debunk such allegations. No time have we planned to impeach him. My aim is to forge a united front for he next election. I don’t have disagreement with Amaechi. That I am the PDP chairman does not give me the power to work against the impeachment of the governor, who is from our party.
Those commenting are only trying to defend their positions. What about the remaining 90 per cent in the state? The masses are happy with us, they know me, and they also know we are for them,” he said, noting that he wants to unite members of the party, bring back the “founding fathers.”
Obuah urged those who felt aggrieved with the judgement to accept it in good faith.
He said that as members of the same party, those aggrieved should see the judgment as one that was in the party’s interest.
“What we are witnessing today is what everybody has dreamed of. The President has not interfered in the judgment of the judiciary. I have come to unite the party and not to divide it. Those that are aggrieved will come back; there’s no winner, no vanquished,” he said.
Obuah said that only politicians, who are less than 10 per cent of the population of the state, enjoy the dividends of democracy, noting that the remaining 90 per cent have been neglected.
He said that his executive, whom he referred to as “the authentic PDP executive” wanted a situation where the 23 local government areas of the state would enjoy the dividends of democracy and assist the Amaechi-led government to achieve its objectives.
Earlier, the chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndon People’s Forum, Chief Ibe Eresia-Eke, said that the group was disappointed at the “unguarded utterances of people in government.
“We are further dismayed at the seeming abrupt loss of memory by the ‘democrats’ who have chosen to castigate the same judicial process, which they have recently acclaimed from the roof tops for the emergence of the governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi,” he added.
