If only Lastma and the Police can stop using one way in Lagos State

Some days ago, a major disaster was covered up in Lagos by the parent of a child who claimed that  as Christians, they I'll have nothing to benefit if a Lastma official was sacked on account of an incident which led to the death of a fourteen years old boy because the official knocked the boy down while taking one way and the innocent boy died on the spot. The parent decided to keep quiet and not report the official, claiming that it should be seen as an at of God. Since the parent decided to keep quiet, it s not my business to say the name of that official. Though they claimed that the official begged that his life problem is as a result of the issues his wife is creating for him at home, I do not see that as a good enough reason to take one way which eventually led to the death of a fourteen years old boy.

The other day, I almost ran into a police vehicle because the police van was coming right opposite me     On one way. From all indication, they were not chasing anyone. The only reason they took one way was because there was a major traffic on the other lane.  Rather than help address the traffic situation, they will rather take one way.

One will recall here quickly that the day the Lagos state governor caught a military man taking the BRT lane, it became one of the most talked about news in the media at the time, one wonders therefore why this one way issue never gets addressed. Is it untill it causes a major disaster?  Eko oni baje o.

Top newspaper report-Cultism in Lagos: The unending war !

The last Wednesday afternoon invasion of Alaba International Market by a gang of gunmen who killed no fewer than five people has highlighted the menace of cultism outside the walls of higher institutions in Lagos and neighbouring communities.
No fewer than 50 lives have in recent times been lost to cult war in the state.
Barely three weeks ago, six people were killed when rival cult groups clashed during a child christening ceremony in Mushin area of Lagos State. A bar manager and three others around the University of Lagos road, Akoka, Yaba were also killed and two days later, the Mushin war was reignited, when cult members clashed and killed two people in Somolu and Bariga areas of the state.
Until recently, cultism used to be a secret affair on the institution campuses but emerging threats in Lagos and other states seem to have indicated that cultism has become a tool for settling scores among politicians, trade unionists, transport unionists and other people who have differences.

The race for the Lagos State 2015 gubernatorial seat between the two major contending partiesACN/APC and PDP is no doubt going to be a very interesting and exhaustive one to watch. This is on account of the many facts, ploys, plans and calculations being daily adopted by the principal players, and by extension, the parties, even as this is not peculiar to Lagos state alone.
In the Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, one name that has suddenly sprung up, according to an inside source, is the pharmacist-turned politician, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, whose ambition to rule Lagos state can be described as rather strategic.
Information at the disposal of this magazine has it that if things go well by the principal architects of the latest move, then the former Democratic Peoples Alliance, (DPA), governorship candidate in the 2007 guber polls, Jimi Agbaje may move to the PDP nest to possibly be their 2015 governorship candidate.

Special Adviser to the President on Media, Dr. Reuben Abati, said yesterday that President Goodluck Jonathan’s inability to speak at the plenary session of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopa was occasioned by a bilateral meeting on infrastructure in West Africa held on the sidelines of the summit.

Jonathan disclosed this at a meeting with the Secretary General of the United Nations, UN, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon.
This, according to him, is informed by the success so far recorded by troops deployed to the three states.
Also yesterday, Jonathan said his administration recorded great achievements in most sectors of the economy despite the security challenges in the country.
The President, who spoke through the Senate President, David Mark, at this year’s Special Inter-denominational Service to commemorate Democracy Day at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, noted that the various policies introduced by his administration had attracted foreign investors to the country while making progress in other areas of the economy.

Jonathan noted that the operation had not recorded collateral civilian casualties, adding that government would do everything possible to ensure that the civilian population was not put through hardship.
He said: “The military intervention in the affected states is going on well. There is no human rights abuse and there is no collateral damage with regards to security of individuals.
“I am optimistic that with the level of success already being recorded, the emergency rule in the affected states may not last up to the six months stipulated by the constitution.”
The President noted that government’s decision to release women and children that were detained over the activities of Boko Haram members was in the spirit of the rules of engagement of the operation.
Earlier, Ki-Moon said terrorism had become a global phenomenon that must be confronted by the international community.

Wool which Killing: Kill the sentiment, honor the Man.

I will always wonder why this killing took place. I will find it hard to think that a Soldier would be killed in that manner. Yes he was, but it was a war he dint see coming. It was because the atmosphere did not say so. So what are the killers telling us? To always watch our back even when we think we have no enemies? Only cowards and blood thirsty demons will act in that manner.

To my fellow Nigerians,  am not sure I have seen anywhere, where the British government attributed this killing to Nigerian, so lets stop the sentiment because its not about us. It's about a young Soldier, a husband, father, child, who lost his life in the most unexpected way. It's about some animals in human skin who take life as though it has duplicate.

Fellow citizens of the world, lets put sentiment aside, we all must condemn this. Rest in peace young soldier, your job is done.

In his last and most controversial book, There Was a Country: A Personal History of Biafra, Achebe had dispelled rumours that he allegedly lost the manuscript to a Camerounian researcher who later moved it to his home country in Africa.
