I am sure many would say if he had won that match yesterday I won't be writing this. That will be an opinion with possibilities. I have seen Chelsea play in the Epl this season and I have wondered continuously if it was the same Chelsea team we saw play football last season. In the past season, We saw a Chelsea team under Dematio and Benitez that played free flowing football. They were compact and the team entertained the crowed with sweet football. Oscar, Mata and Hazard were the trio many teams feared up front because of their combination. David Luiz, with all of his human error was for us, that Chelsea defender with great skills which many defenders don't have and a hunger for goals which many strikers also don't have. Mikel was that great midfield general whose presence will usually release Ramires to go forward and make the impossible happen. The interchanging in playing time of Cahill, Cesar , ivanovic gave the defense enough options. That was the Chelsea football club we saw and knew. Today, like any proud coach, Mounrinho is the only coach with a passion for being blind at reality. He is so full of great pride that, if he has his way, he will sell off every player not bought by him. He is the only one who has failed to see the creativity Mata can bring to his team because according to him, every one must play like a wounded lion. If every one plays that way, who will be left to do the creative job? The unnecessary pressure he has placed on Oscar is telling on the young man. Today's Chelsea, under the so called special or happy one is vulnerable , open. Flat, and available for devouring.
I have great respect for Frank Lampard and John Terry. But believe me they are no longer 90 minutes players. Why Mourinho will prefer to keep young players on the bench for this two beats me. Who does not know that football has gone beyond experience alone. Skill and pace is the name of the game now and that is what young players give you as options.David Luiz can be made to play together with Mikel and Ramires in the mid field in place of Frank Lampard if he is not wanted in the defense. But to keep him perpetually on the bench while Frank Lampard play 90 minutes football is cruel and criminal. I say this because if Mourinho is doing it because he wants the favor of the English people, then we all may need to stop watching English football. I am not writing here as a blogger, I am writing as a fan, so forgive and allow my bias and sentiment.
Let me put this to Mourinho, he has lost it. He may need to bury his pride and seek counseling from some one who can help him reposition his ego. He needs to take that ego to the position of winning games and not to that of proving a point. By proving a point, I mean playing with the players he signed. Who says making the old players play for him will make the world think less of him? What he is doing is making way for the departure of Luiz, Mata and Ba. This boys will leave in January. His pride made him send away a Lukaku who has kept Everyon going for a Eto whose youth days has long gone to sleep.
Looking at the game played on Saturday, I told my friends who cared to listen that the three goals win was nothing but luck smiling on the team, because the team play was far from commendable. Yesterday, Basel proved me right. Chelsea football club was left to keep chasing the ball for ninety minutes while the Basel team showed them the game of the games played by a team who has come to appreciate the role of creative players. It would have been unjust if Basel had not won yesterday. Chelsea Fc were like babies yesterday and I think that Mourinho should be ashamed of himself losing both at home and away to Basel fc. What is special about the so called special one then? Some body tell me!
My advice is simple, Mourinho should get himself a counsellor . He should kill his pride. From his current team, this is his best eleven, cech, Cole,ivanovic,Cahill,Luiz,mikel, ramires,mata,hazard,oscar and Torres.. In his reserve, Terry, Lampard, Ba, Eto, William and may be shurle and the reserve goal keeper. He can make his choice from that. The man called Mourinho used to be feared, he can get to that point again. He was once rated the best coach in the world, now he is only rated as one of the best. If Chelsea continue to play this way, and this is not judging them by just one game, they will how trophiyless this season and that will be bad girl their rating. If they continue to play like this Ndidi meet Man city again, it will amount to one disaster waiting to happen. Mounrinho and the team must wake up. But my take is that Mourinho is actually the one who needs to wake up. However, he is still my man as his presence made he a blues fan. The sky is still blue....up Chelsea.
